I was a miner. I was a soldier. I was a ragged trousered philanthropist. Once I flew in a plane, and I fought in a war. I lived in a castle, but I slept on the floor. All the frailty and foolishness of mankind has shaped me melancholy. I see the space between what mankind is and what it could be, and the growing pains we suffer as we slowly occupy it. I perfectly understand what Winston Churchill meant when he said "The longer you can look back, the farther you can see forward."
